All levels welcome. Come with your instrument or be prepared to sing. Reading music is not required. Are you interested in what gives Arabic and Persian music it’s distinct sound? The answer lies in it’s intricate system of scales and rhythms. In this class we will outline the elements of Arabic music, learn a few of the most popular scales (maqamat) and rhythmic structures (iqaat), and experiment with melodic improvisation in each mode.
